Get Airports Ready for Disaster’ (GARD) is a public-private partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Deutsche Post DHL (DP DHL) to prepare airports as logistics hubs in the event of disaster, by assessing airport capacities to manage the influx of humanitarian aid and personnel in disaster response situations; training airport staff and disaster responders on how to manage this influx; and helping authorities to develop an action plan to increase the response capacity and guide response operations at the airport. GARD+ reinforces what was learnt during the first workshop and, through practical exercises, assesses what progress has been made on the action plan, evaluating the readiness of GARD-trained airports to respond to disaster. A GARD workshop took place at Sarajevo International Airport from 24th – 28th September 2018 and a GARD+ workshop has been scheduled for 30th May – 1st June 2023, in partnership with DPPI-SEE, the Ministry of Security, and Sarajevo International Airport. The training is part of the preparation for the simulation exercise DPPI FLEX 2023 scheduled for October.
