Upon the invitation of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), DPPI SEE Head of Secretariat participated as observer at the 15th meeting of the Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) on Disaster Management in Bangkok, Thailand. Established in 2000 with more than 20 member countries, the RCC promotes peer advocacy and exchange of expertise in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate resilience.
ADPC,as the RCC’s Secretariat, is committed to bring the countries from Asia and the Pacific together to achieve the common goal of resilience against disasters and climate change, explore ways to transform policies into practice, and promote regional cooperation. At the last day of the conference, DPPI SEE Head of Secretariat had the opportunity to present the role, mandate and activities that DPPI SEE is conducting.
The summary message is that although different in geographical context, the countries of DPPI SEE and RCC are shearing the same challenges when DRR implementation is in question. Identifying suitable models for cross regional cooperation in knowledge shearing and identifying best practices will be something that DPPI SEE and ADPC will further explore.
